THE FLYING GUINEA PIG – GENTLE YOGA – PART 3

Supported, Grounded, and Stable – Part Three of Three

Please read Part One and Part Two to understand where this picks up:

Yoga for Everybody The Eight Limbs After class, I can definitely say I felt as if I were on “cloud nine!”  Even though some aspects of the class were challenging, that’s what made it all work for me as well.  If I’d already known all of the poses and what to do, it wouldn’t have been such a new and rewarding experience.  As the others were leaving, I spoke with Kathy and told her how much I enjoyed my first yoga class.  She gave me a little more insight on Gentle Yoga and told me to come back to try all the different classes the studio offers.

Walking out, I felt like a whole new person:  relaxed, at ease, and ready for a great night’s sleep!  Sure enough, when it was time for bed, I fell asleep instantly and felt so well rested the next day.  Even for a few nights following that first class, I fell asleep like a baby.  As the days went on, I still felt rejuvenated, at peace, and like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders.  I found myself thinking more positively, feeling less stressed.  Before doing yoga, I often thought to myself, “If what I want isn’t happening now, when will it ever?” and those thoughts definitely affected my mood.  But after yoga class, I had a new mindset that helped me realize that everything I need to have happen will happen when the time is right.  I would love to have that feeling of “being free” as much as I

possibly can!  So, after experiencing Gentle Yoga at Yoga for Everybody, I definitely will be incorporating those simple poses much more into my life.

I took Kathy’s class so I could to share my personal experience with readers of this blog, but I thought it important to also ask her how yoga could be beneficial for Veterans.  She said, “Yoga practice can help heal some injuries.  Vets can feel strong and stable in their bodies, and the benefits of relaxation are well known.”  For me, an hour of calming my mind and focusing on the important things in life certainly helped me feel better.  My experience was amazing and I will definitely be returning to Yoga for Everybody for more classes in the future.   I hope you try a class near you, too!
